one daughter 'Hester Nice' no mention of Maria who married Edward Nice. perhaps she had two names, her mother referred to her as Hester
In 1790 a depression in the woollen industry prompted the Marquis of Buckingham
(of Gosfield Hall) to introduce strawplaiting to relieve the distress of the poor.It is on record that at one time no less than 91 women and children were occupied in stawplaiting in the village of Gestingthorpe alone.
In 1807 Halstead, 2012 out of   the population of 3279 were then in poor relief
